Upgrading and downgrading
Changing tier mid-cycle, proration, and the checks run before a downgrade.
Tier changes are made from Settings → Subscription and go through the payment provider's checkout.
Downgrades are checked first
Moving down a tier is validated against what you are actually using. If you have more stores or more active staff than the lower tier allows, the change is refused rather than silently leaving you over the limit. Reduce first, then downgrade.
Only active staff count towards the staff limit, which matches how the limit is enforced everywhere else.
